DO KNOW YOU TODAY( the 7th july 09) IS GURUPURNIMA

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्‍वरः ।

गुरु साक्षात्‌ परब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरुवे नमः ॥

“Guru is creator Brahma; Guru is preserver Vishnu; Guru is also the destroyer Siva and he is the source of the Absolute. I offer all my salutations to the Guru”.

The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. The day is celebrated as a mark of respect to the “Guru” i.e. a teacher or a preacher. All Hindus are indebted to this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata. Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus. The day, also known as “Vyasa Purnima” is observed by devotees who offer pujas (worship) to their beloved Gurus. Sage Vyasa is known to be the Adi (original) Guru of the Hindu religion.Sri Vyasa has done cherised service to humanity by editing the four Vedas, writing the eighteen Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata. In honour of this divine personage, all spiritual aspirants and devotees perform Vyasa Puja on this day,of their respective spiritual preceptor or 'Gurudevs'. and disciples worship their spiritual preceptor.

Hindus show much respect to their gurus. Gurus are often regarded as God. The Shvetashvatara Upanishad tells :“Yasya deve para bhaktir yatha deve tatha gurauTasyaite kathitaa hi arthaaha prakashante mahatmanaha”.

This means, Guru to be worshipped in the same manner as the deity - God, to attain all there is to attain on the path of God-realization. When this Self is within you where is the need to search for someone to teach you!

The best form of worship of the Guru is to follow his teachings, to shine as the very embodiment of his teachings, and to propagate his gloryand his message.

Guru is Brahman, the Absolute, or God Himself. He guides and inspires you from the innermost core of your being. He is everywhere.
